The Chroma 61830HF, 61845HF and 61860HF are regenerative grid simulators for testing applications including PV inverters, energy storage systems (ESS), power conditioning systems (PCS), microgrids, EVSE and bidirectional on-board chargers. The series combines 30–60 kVA output power with a compact 5U chassis and provides up to 460 V L-N or 797 V L-L. With a single-phase three-wire configuration, the equivalent output voltage can reach up to 920 V.

With four-quadrant operation, the series can both source and sink power. Energy returned from the device under test is fed back to the grid at over 90% conversion efficiency rather than being dissipated as heat. In addition to AC output, the units support DC and AC+DC modes, enabling both DC-only testing and AC testing with DC bias.

STEP, PULSE and LIST functions, together with harmonic and interharmonic capabilities, enable simulation of a wide range of grid conditions and disturbances. The series supports applications including testing according to IEEE 1547 and IEC 62116 as well as IEC 61000-related grid and immunity testing. It is also suitable for V2G, LVRT and other grid-connected equipment testing.

The 61800HF Series provides an external analogue signal input for Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) applications, with latency of less than 100 μs from external signal input to actual voltage output. For higher-power applications, up to four units of the same power rating can be connected in parallel using a master/slave configuration, providing a total output of up to 240 kVA.
