Chroma 61830HF, 61845HF and 61860HF are regenerative grid simulators for testing applications including PV inverters, energy storage systems (ESS), power conversion systems (PCS), microgrids, EVSE and bidirectional on-board chargers. The series features high power density, providing 30, 45 or 60 kVA of output power in a compact 5U chassis. The output voltage range is 0–460 V L-N, corresponding to up to 797 V L-L with three-phase output. In a single-phase three-wire configuration, the output voltage can reach 920 V.
With four-quadrant operation, the series can both source and absorb power. Energy returned from the device under test is fed back to the grid with an efficiency of over 90% instead of being dissipated as heat. Full output power is also available in single-phase and DC operation. In addition to AC output, DC and AC+DC are supported, enabling both pure DC testing and AC testing with DC bias.
For simulation of different grid conditions, STEP, PULSE and LIST functions are provided, together with harmonic and interharmonic synthesis and measurement. The series can be used for testing according to standards including IEEE 1547 and IEC 62116, as well as IEC 61000-related grid and immunity testing. It is also suitable for V2G, LVRT and other tests of grid-connected equipment.
The 61800HF series provides an external analogue signal input for Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL), with a latency of less than 100 μs from external signal input to voltage output. For higher-power applications, up to four units of the same power rating can be connected in parallel in a master/slave configuration, providing a total output power of up to 240 kVA.
