The Hioki VT1005 is a high-precision AC/DC high-voltage divider designed for measuring signals up to 5 kVrms. It scales the input voltage by a fixed 1000:1 ratio and provides a scaled low-voltage signal via a BNC output for direct connection to power analyzers, memory recorders, oscilloscopes, or other instruments with BNC input.

The instrument delivers high accuracy across a wide frequency range: ±0.08% for DC and ±0.04% at 50/60 Hz, with amplitude flatness of ±0.1% up to 200 kHz and phase accuracy of ±0.1° up to 500 kHz. The flat frequency response enables precise power analysis even in fast-switching systems with significant harmonic content, supporting measurements up to 4 MHz (–3 dB).

Comparison with differential probes

Compared to conventional high-voltage differential probes, the VT1005 offers significantly higher accuracy. Differential probes typically provide around 2% amplitude accuracy and often do not specify phase accuracy, limiting their use in precise power measurements, especially in PWM-based systems such as DC/DC converters and drive inverters.

The VT1005 is designed for accurate AC/DC voltage measurement with well-defined amplitude and phase specifications, making it suitable for these demanding applications.

Passive design for stable measurement results

The passive architecture eliminates issues commonly associated with active differential probes, such as probe loading, thermal drift, and active circuit noise. This results in cleaner signals, higher accuracy, and stable measurement performance over time, even at higher frequencies.

With a common-mode rejection ratio of 80 dB at 100 kHz, measurement integrity is maintained even in electromagnetically noisy environments such as inverter test benches and industrial power systems.

Thanks to its accuracy, wide bandwidth, and noise immunity, the VT1005 is well suited for loss measurement in high-voltage components, efficiency analysis of power electronics, and characterization of wireless power transfer systems.
