The Hioki RM3546 is a high-precision DC resistance meter designed for resistance measurement of welded joints in battery cells, battery modules and power interconnections. The instrument is optimized for low-resistance measurements immediately after the welding process, even while the joint is still cooling and measurement conditions are affected by temperature variations, long cable runs and multiple contact points within the measurement path.

The RM3546 offers 13 resistance ranges from 1 mΩ to 1000 MΩ, a maximum test current of 1 A and measurement resolution down to 1 nΩ. The lowest resistance range provides the sensitivity required to detect small resistance changes in weld joints and electrical connections. With a basic accuracy of ±0.045% rdg ±0.010% f.s., the instrument is suitable for both laboratory and production environments requiring highly repeatable measurements.

To ensure stable results in automated test systems with extended wiring, the RM3546 provides a path resistance tolerance of up to 9 Ω. This minimizes the influence of cable length and installation layout, simplifying integration into manufacturing and automated test environments.

The instrument features temperature compensation that adjusts resistance measurements using either an external temperature signal or the included Z2001 temperature sensor. This function is particularly useful when evaluating weld resistance during the cooling phase. Advanced Offset Voltage Compensation (A-OVC) further improves measurement stability by suppressing thermoelectric voltages and internal offset voltages through alternating current polarity during measurement.

For system integration and automation, the RM3546 provides LAN, USB and RS-232C communication interfaces together with external I/O for triggering and pass/fail signalling. Up to two optional Z3003 multiplexer cards can be installed, enabling automated four-wire measurements on up to 20 channels without requiring external scanner hardware.

For battery service applications, the instrument incorporates Active Circuit Protection (ACP) up to 60 V DC. This function protects the meter against unintentionally applied voltages during manual measurements and improves operational safety when working with battery modules and energy storage systems.
